Thank you to all who have supported our emergency food aid appeal so generously. You can still do so by visiting our online giving page here.
The first delivery was made on 9th April, with help from Marys Meals, and was to support 130 of the most needy families identified by the Likhubula community.
Each food package contains 50 kg of maize flour, 10 kg of peas, 10 kg of super cereal (porridge flour), and 2 litres of vegetable oil. This should be sufficient to feed a large family for a month.
The Likhubula committee oversaw the distribution of food, and have sent us a selection of photos of what look like a very well organised distribution. You can view these in our photo galleries here.
The Likhubula committee sent this message:
"We received 130 packages of food stuffs for 130 beneficiaries. The entire community is appreciating for the program. People of our community are not going to starve due to your help"
Iain, who is overseeing this food aid appeal in Dunblane writes:
"Very many thanks to all of you who have responded so quickly and so generously to the appeal for our friends in Likhubula The first delivery of food costing £3000 was made on the 9th April by Mary’s Meals. 130 of the poorest and most needy families benefitted. We hope to make a further drop off very soon. Realistically we think we need to make a further 2 deliveries making four in total. This will give the community time to get themselves back on their feet, repair the houses, plant and grow some food. To do this we would still need to raise a further £6000. A lot of money but to put it in context for the cost of two M&S meals you can feed a family for a month."
Our thanks go to Marys Meals, the Likhubula committee and to all who have supported so far.
