Following the floods earlier this year, we received a message from the Likhubula committee informing us the water supply near Nansato school, installed through the partnership a number of years ago, had been damaged and required urgent attention.
We approached Phillip, whose company recently installed the new toilets, to confirm the problems and get a quote for repair. It was determined through discussions with the Likhubula Committee, Phillip and our Dunblane committee that there was a real risk of disease due to poor sanitation and water pollution, and so we agreed to help.
The cost of this was around £1000 - not an inconsiderable sum, but very necessary and only possible thanks to our many supporters.
Work began and was completed in around a week.
We received the following message from the Likhubula committee once the work was completed:
“Currently the water system perfect. We thank you very much for your consideration as well as efforts in making the system functional all the time. The tank/water reservoir at Nansato school is full of water. Women are able to cook porridge in time and leaners are also able to eat the porridge before lessons start because women are able to draw at the school.”
Phillip, whose company completed the work, sent us this update:
"I went down to Likhubula to do the final check on water project and everything is perfect. Water pressure is so high that even the community is smiling. What was happening before was that if you place a pail of say about 20 litres, it used take more than 15 minutes to fill it. Now it’s only about a minute to fill the same. You have done a great thing to Nansato Primary School and the community around. Water problem is now a thing of the past. The reservoir tank at the school has been renovated and it’s now in operational."
This is very definitely a good news story! However, it was an unexpected expense and leaves our funds in a less healthy position than we had anticipated. Look out for news of fundraising events in the near future. We hope you might be willing to help.
