We have received an update from our partners in the Rotary Club on the Fistula project.
You may remember that we helped to fund this project with the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane, in order to help train midwifes in rural Malawi. The project does work at Mulanje Mission hospital, not far from Likhubula.
As can be seen from the report, there have been many challenges to the project, but it is good to hear that our contribution has been safeguarded and we look forward to hearing more as the project progresses and succeeds.
Essentially, changes in the political leadership in Malawi coupled with a disapointing pass rate in the first round of midwifes have led to a restructuring of the training undertaken. Fewer midwifes will now be trained each year but training will be to a higher level to ensure the greatest success for the programme.
